The Department of Medical Social Services at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation is dedicated to providing emotional and psycho social support to patients and their families, as they navigate the challenges of illness and treatment.
Department of Medical Social Services was initiated in 1985 alongside Transplant Program, a full-fledged Patients Welfare Department established in April 1986.
Our qualified social worker (MSO) who work in Collaboration with other members of kidney multidisciplinary team to dialysis, transplant, paedriatics, oncology, nephrology and emergency.
This may involve:
Talking Through the practical of social implication of treatment, decision, maximizing quality of life and wellbeing.
Listening, informing, assessing and planning in a range of personal, emotional matters.
Emotional support including adjusting to a diagnostic and support with loving with a long term condition like kidney disease.
Completing home visit to see the living condition of post-transplant patients
Support with work issues such as advice on how to navigate with employers to attend medical appointments.
Help patient and their families understand a particular illness, work through the emotion of a diagnosis, and provide counselling about the decision that need to be made.
Use case management skills to help patient and their families address and resolve the social financial and psychological problems related to their health Condition.
Helping patients on the roles of healthcare team members, assisting patient and their families in communicating with one another and to member of health care team; interpreting information.
Educating patients on the level of healthcare (i.e. acute, sub-acute, homecare)
Facilitating decision making on behalf of patient and families.
Diagnosing underlying mental illness, providing referral for individual, family psychotherapy.
Ensuring communication and understanding about post- Hospital care among patient, family and health care team members.
Advocating for patient and family needs in different Settings, inpatient out patient, home, and in the Community.
