Prevention and control of diabetes is a major step in prevention of kidney related ailments, was the unanimous view of medical specialists who spoke at the World Diabetes Day event held at SIUT..Every year November 14th is marked as the World Diabetes Day.
SIUT has been organizing this day over past five years as part of its public education program and also to create awareness among the masses.
The day long series of events included diabetes screening camp, laboratory testing, diabetes education videos discussing the pros and cons of the metabolic disorder. Renowned experts of diabetes representing various sub specialties also spoke at a seminar. They pointed out that currently there were around 10 million diabetes patients in the country and the figure was projected to rise over 14million by 2040. The specialists were of the view that widespread screening for diabetes patients to check the growing incidence is quite essential.
