A two-day Course on Urodynamics was inaugurated at SIUT on Monday 1st October 2018. Two foreign experts, Dr. Rizwan Hamid Consultant Urologist and Clinical Lead for Neuro-urology and Mr. Eskinder Solomon, Consultant Clinical Scientist at University College London and four SIUT faculty members led by Dr. Manzoor Hussain, Professor of Urology conducted this course. Over 250 urologists, gynecologists and postgraduates have attended the course offered by SIUT free of cost.
The gynecologists from all over the city and urologists from all over Pakistan participated in lectures and live case demonstrations especially on female patients from gynecological disorders and male patients with dysfunction of bladder, urethra and lower urinary tract symptoms. The course also addressed the pediatric population for the diagnosis of congenital anomalies and reflux.
The SIUT Urodynamics programme is multidisciplinary with the approach of bringing in the urological problems of males and especially females by the combined exposure of gynecologists and urologists. The modality of urodynamic is available at SIUT for many years providing free diagnostic facility to all patients. Recently some latest features of urodynamics study have been included at SIUT that will help in reaching a scientific diagnosis to make the choice of treatment either by minimally invasive surgery as well as more extensive reconstructive surgery.
During the course, the newer branch of urology called functional urology was updated for the urologists and gynecologists to help hundreds of thousands of patients who come into their clinical practice.
The experts not only showed live clinical demonstrations from operation theatre but also explained all the clinical details through lectures and interactive case discussions which would also help other units to acquire this sub-specialty in urology.
