The 3rd School Children’s Painting Exhibition

The 3rd School Children’s Painting Exhibition organized by the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) was held at their premises. The theme of the exhibition was “Good Health is the Key to Happiness”. More than 650 paintings were displayed. These were made by school students ranging age groups of from 6 to 16.

Judges included well-known art personalities from the world of art including Anwar Maqsood, Nilofur Farrukh and Rumana Hussain.

Addressing the audience, Dr. Fatema Jawad, coordinator of the exhibition, said that cultural changes and new lifestyle have created a fertile ground for sprouting many diseases. She emphasized the need for a healthy body in order to have a healthy mind. The paintings show of school children is a source of creativity and rich imagination amongst the children she added.

Dr. Fatema also paid rich tributes to two great friends of SIUT who passed away recently including Ms. Anita Ghulam Ali who was a staunch supporter of children’s right to education, and famous water-colorist Chris Abbas who donated her corneas when she died.

S.M. Shahid, another friend of SIUT read a satirical piece on the adult’s turning into “bad children” while the children had to make paintings to remind the elders to give up bad habits like chewing gutka and chalia, spitting pan, throwing garbage and writing all sorts of atrocious messages on the walls.

Maulana Abdul Sattar Edhi, Hameed Akhund, Justice Majida Rizvi and Anwar Maqsood presented the prizes to the children.

The program concluded on a musical note, with songs presented by Zainab, one of the talented young friends of SIUT.
