A three day conference on " Minimal Invasive Surgery (MIS) was held at the Hanifa Suleman Dawood Oncology Centre of SIUT which was largely attended by surgeons from abroad and clinical team of SIUT.
Those who came from abroad included Prof. Shamim Khan of King's College London, Prof.Matin Khalid of Medway Maritime Hospital Kent, Prof. Ghulam Nabi of Ninewells Hospital Dundee, Dr. Tariq Tasadduq of Bedford Hospital, Dr Faiz Mumtaz of Royal Free Hospital London ,Dr. Munir Ahmed of King's College London, and Dr. Benjie Tang from University of Dundee.
Those who represented SIUT at the conference were Dr. Sajid Sultan, Dr. Asad Shehzad and Dr. Khawar Aziz.
They participants carried out didactic lectures, live operations performed by visiting and national faculty and hands on training in skills Lab. The topics they covered included the role of MIS in Oncological surgery, reconstructive surgery and transplantation. Hands on training session was also carried out by Dr. Tasaduq and Dr. Tang for residents.
MIS is the way forward in the world of surgical sciences. The benefits of minimal invasive surgery are less chances of infection, a shorter recovery time and a shorter hospital stay. There is also less operating trauma. It causes less pain, minimum scar and reduces the incidence of post-surgical complications. The MIS system is now used around the world in all major surgical fields.
